Some pictures of an ongoing project of mine. I am trying to create a fictional 3D landscape with a sense of plausibility regarding atmosphere, scale and lighting conditions. Whether this plausibility will be included in a later form of presentation will be up to the upcoming process.
in case of a good day
Past three weeks

First day of the last courses in Weißensee I build a model out of strips of paper, which had a feeling of modern architecture to it. I tried to build a similar construction on a bigger scale (half the height of a human) but unfortunately found no proper material to do so. At least nothing free of charge.

Some particle system tests in processing. It lacks a flocking algorithm, some movement and an overall concept. Visuals which feature a more continuous and slower movement and a more consistent order have a greater impact on the observer I learned. I will refine the code for some of the ideas I found the last three weeks to experiment with them for a live music-visualizer. I should start coding in eclipse.
Sometimes coding mistakes create nice effects. These are formed by an overlay of approximately 500 cubes in edge-only mode.
Last night in Bangkok
I've been to Bangkok and Phuket over christmas and new years. These are three shots from the night before my flight back to Berlin.
The first and third are photographed out of my hotel room on the 22nd floor on the Silom Road. The second picture has been taken beneath the "crossing" of the Silom Road and the 2nd State Tollway.
Grundlagen
Painted this in five days with around 25 different color-stages. I'm not very good at painting but it was fun to concentrate on one picture for a longer period of time and experiment with different color-variations. I learned a great deal about the "neighborhood-impressions" of colors.

Done at an exhibition in the old "Heizkraftwerk Berlin Mitte". A huge hall formerly used for the turbine of the power plant. These boxes were used for shipment of the exhibits which were mostly architectural models.
Studying a plastic skeleton helped me to understand some of my own anatomy a bit better.
RaumAkustik
RaumAkustik from Karsten Schuhl on Vimeo.
Testing the combined effect of auditory and visual stimuli regarding the perception of spaces.
Short animation done for the "spatial design"-class at university.

There are a lot of interesting options to deepen some of the basic-classes at university in the next semester and I don't know which would be good to explore.
Drawing

Got to draw a rather disorderly organized stack of six chairs on thursday for the "Zeichnen I" class (roughly translated 'Drawing I'). After spending half the day on a huge, about Din A0 sized drawing of the stack with terrible mistakes in it I started little drawings in my sketchbook. It was the first time I seriously tried to draw something complex on a format sized bigger than A2.
I need a camera to document all "oversized" practices.
